On its 10th anniversary, Trezor launched three new products: Safe 3, Keep Metal and Safe 3 Bitcoin-only.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, Trezor, one of the leading providers of cryptocurrency hardware wallets, has launched its latest product, the Trezor Safe 3. The move includes dropping the touchscreen in favor of physical buttons. Trezor Safe 3 includes new security features, such as a tamper-resistant Secure Element. It is the first of Trezor’s products to include the Secure Element.

The company, based in the Czech Republic, stated that there are no problems with the touchscreen of the previous Model T. However, it opted for a more economical solution, bringing back physical buttons, to make its new product more affordable. At a cost of $79, the Trezor Safe 3 is significantly cheaper than the $219 for the Trezor Model T.

The Bitcoin-only version

The Trezor Safe 3, while continuing to support over 7,000 cryptocurrencies like its predecessors, marks a major milestone in Trezor’s offering of entry-level hardware wallets. Trezor has launched a version of the hardware wallet which is Bitcoin-only, limited to only 2,013 pieces. For each unit sold, the company will donate $21 to the Trezor Academy, an educational initiative on Bitcoin.

Trezor Keep Metal: steel to protect recovery seeds

In addition to the launch of the hardware wallet, Trezor has also introduced its own solution for the protection of recovery seeds, named Trezor Keep Metal. This tool, made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel and designed to withstand extreme conditions (fire, water, acids, shocks), enables users to secure the phrase necessary for wallet recovery in case of loss or damage to the hardware wallet.

Matej Zak, CEO of Trezor, called Keep Metal an important element to improve usability and consequent increase in cryptocurrency adoption. According to Zak, unlike other solutions that require a conversion in the numbering system, with Keep Metal it is sufficient to insert the letter of the words on the steel, making it an intuitive system.
