The multi-coin wallet adds Lightning Network support via Breez SDK and Spark, maintaining self-custody and privacy protection.

Cake Wallet has announced the integration of Lightning Network into its mobile wallet, bringing support for Bitcoin’s layer 2 with a focus on self-custody and privacy. The update allows users to make instant payments without managing a Lightning node.

The integration is powered by Breez SDK and Spark. Cake Wallet has developed a custom implementation of the Spark suite, with the specific goal of strengthening user privacy. As stated by the company: “Lightning transactions in Cake Wallet do not embed the Spark address in Lightning invoices, and transaction data is not published to public explorers by default. Visibility is intentionally limited, reducing unnecessary exposure of user activity and protecting their privacy.”

Seth for Privacy, COO of Cake Wallet, commented:

“Lightning shouldn’t require users to sacrifice privacy or custody just to get speed. What we have today makes Lightning practical with strong privacy defaults, simple self-custody, and a clear on-chain exit path.”

Vikrant Sharma, CEO of Cake Labs, stated:

“With Breez and Spark, Lightning finally reaches a point where it can be fast and intuitive without turning bitcoin into an IOU or giving up control. It’s the first time Lightning has felt aligned with the principles Cake was built on.”

The wallet had already implemented technologies such as Silent Payments and Payjoin, sophisticated privacy tools. The update also includes user interface improvements and new social features, including Birdpay, which allows users to send cryptocurrency to X.com accounts by using their username.
