Glassnode’s on-chain data catalogue now accepts per-API-call payments via the x402 protocol, with no account and no API key

Glassnode announced on 4 August 2026 the integration of the x402 protocol into its on-chain data catalogue, enabling per-API-call payments by AI agents with no registration, no API key, and no subscription.

The x402 protocol is an open standard developed by Coinbase and now maintained by the x402 Foundation under the Linux Foundation. The mechanism is direct: when an agent queries a paid endpoint, the server responds with the required price; the agent settles in USDC and receives the data. No human intervenes in the purchase cycle. Glassnode publishes its catalogue as a machine-readable skill file, so any agent can autonomously discover which metrics are available and what they cost.

Two integration paths are available. The first uses Coinbase for Agents, which allows the agent to pay directly from the user’s Coinbase balance. The second is based on Base MCP, a free on-chain wallet compatible with any agent interface that supports the MCP protocol, designed for users without a Coinbase account.

According to Glassnode, this is the first time its data can be purchased by software, for software, with no human in the registration loop. The announcement explicitly references trading bots, research assistants, and market monitors as primary use cases – agents that will carry wallets rather than API keys. The published technical demonstration shows an agent querying metrics such as MVRV and the supply cost-basis distribution (URPD) via natural-language prompts.
