IREN, TeraWulf and Riot combine AI and HPC with mining
As of 31 August 2026, the seven-day average Bitcoin hashrate was close to 914 EH/s, about one-fifth below the October 2025 peak of 1,151.6 EH/s.
The difficulty adjustment on 8 August rose by 1%. Difficulty then fell by 1.31% on 23 August. As of 31 August, Hashrate Index estimated the seven-day hashrate at 915 EH/s and the average block time at 9 minutes and 56 seconds.
IREN reduced its installed Bitcoin mining capacity from 50 EH/s in June 2025 to 23.2 EH/s in June 2026, retiring miners and redirecting power and data-centre infrastructure to AI Cloud Services. By the end of June, about 40 MW of AI Cloud capacity was operational.
TeraWulf reported 81 MW of critical IT capacity as of 30 June and 102 MW energised in July, alongside 145 MW of legacy Bitcoin mining capacity. Riot Platforms signed a 20-year computing agreement worth about $9 billion with Anthropic in August and increased deployed mining capacity from 38.5 to 44.4 EH/s. MARA reported 70.3 EH/s energised as of 30 June, while Bitdeer reached 76.7 EH/s of self-mining capacity in July.
