The new open-source app simplifies Bitcoin payments, bringing the Lightning Network to smartphones in a non-custodial mode.
Alby, the company specialized in Bitcoin and LN payment solutions, has announced the launch of Alby Go, a mobile application available for iOS and Android. The app allows users to make non-custodial payments through their own Lightning node.
Alby Go serves as a user-friendly interface for Lightning nodes and Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) wallet services. The app can be connected to various Lightning nodes and wallets, including Alby Hub, Umbrel, Start9, LifPay, and CoinOS.
The integration with Alby Hub is particularly intuitive. Alby Hub is an open-source software developed by Alby that aims to make the installation and management of a Lightning node easily accessible and usable from multiple devices.
Regarding the launch, Michael Bumann, co-founder of Alby, stated:
“Alby Go is our next step in making bitcoin accessible everywhere, now bringing it to users’ pockets. By utilizing the NWC messaging protocol, we facilitate seamless use of multiple nodes and wallets in a lightweight app.”
Among the features of Alby Go is a contact list to store the Lightning addresses of frequent contacts.
The company encourages users to provide feedback and suggestions to further improve the application. Alby Go’s code is open-source, open to reviews and contributions from the developer community.
