The new open-source tool aims to simplify the installation and management of a Lightning node for Bitcoin users.
On July 24, the startup Alby announced the launch of Alby Hub, a solution that promises to simplify the use of the Lightning Network in a non-custodial manner. It is an open-source software that allows for the installation of a Lightning node in a simple way, making node management accessible to a wider audience.
Michael Bumann, founder of Alby, commented:
“With Alby Hub, we are now taking Lightning Network self-custody to the next level by rethinking the utility behind running a lightning node. With Alby Hub, users now have endless possibilities for self-sovereign payments on the web without the technical overhead.”
Features of Alby Hub
The main features of the Alby Hub service are:
- Simplified installation: Alby Hub offers a one-click Lightning node installation, eliminating technical barriers for less experienced users.
- Non-custodial wallet: users maintain full control of their funds through the use of a non-custodial wallet.
- Integrated app store: easy integration with apps like Damus or Stacker News, Podcasting 2.0 applications, and external Lightning wallets via NWC (Nostr Wallet Connect).
- Simple migration: existing users can transfer their funds from the Alby web wallet to their new node on Alby Hub.
- Additional services: Alby Hub also includes options for card top-ups and integrated LSP services for simplified LN channel management.
Usage options
Alby Hub is available in two versions:
- Alby Hub Cloud: a paid service at 21,000 satoshis per month, offering simplified installation, support for real-time channel management, and access to the Alby Buzz community.
- Free DIY version: an open-source version that can be installed on personal servers, desktop, or even on Raspberry Pi Zero.
