The new Avalon A16 series marks Canaan’s return to the hardware market, delivering some of the highest performance levels in the industry.

Canaan Inc. has unveiled its next generation of Bitcoin mining devices with the introduction of the Avalon A16 series, boasting an energy efficiency of 12.8 joules per terahash. The announcement took place on October 28 during the Blockchain Life 2025 Summit in Dubai.

The first model in the lineup, called A16XP, delivers 300 TH/s of hashrate using an air-cooling system.

The performance of Canaan’s A16 series stands on par with Bitmain’s flagship Antminer S21 models, the company’s main competitor in the sector.

Canaan announced that shipments will begin from its strategically distributed production bases in North America, East Asia, and Southeast Asia, with pre-orders already open.

The launch of the A16 series represents the latest performance upgrade following the introduction of the Avalon A15 series last year.

Reaching an efficiency comparable to 13 J/TH achieved by Bitmain’s S21XP liquid-cooled models, the air-cooled Avalon A16 series repositions Canaan in direct competition with the industry’s leading manufacturers. The company emphasized that this new product line strengthens its vertically integrated model, encompassing ASIC chip design, hardware sales, self-mining operations, and Bitcoin treasury management.

Canaan’s commercial momentum comes amid a broader expansion effort. The company is developing gas-to-compute pilot projects in Canada, initiatives that convert excess natural gas into energy for Bitcoin mining. At the same time, it is localizing part of its production in the United States, a move that highlights its intention to expand service reach and strengthen its presence in key markets.
