The German bank is preparing to launch digital asset custody services with the support of Bitpanda.
German banking giant Deutsche Bank will launch a service dedicated to digital asset custody in 2026. According to Bloomberg, the bank’s strategy includes a collaboration with the exchange Bitpanda.
Deutsche Bank’s decision to develop a digital asset custody service marks a step in the financial institution’s diversification strategy.
The bank’s initiative goes beyond just partnering with Bitpanda. Taurus, a Swiss provider of digital asset infrastructure and a long-time partner of the German bank, will continue to provide specialized technical support for the service launch.
Deutsche Bank’s interest in the crypto world is not new. The bank began considering the introduction of digital asset custody services back in late 2020, requesting regulatory approval in 2023 to operate as a custodian of cryptocurrencies and other digital instruments.
This project is part of a broader strategy to increase fee-based revenues and reflects similar initiatives undertaken by DWS Group, Deutsche Bank’s asset management arm.
In addition to custody services, Deutsche Bank is exploring opportunities in stablecoins and tokenized deposits. The bank is considering issuing its own digital token or joining collaborative industry initiatives, aligning with the growing interest of financial institutions in tokenization.
