After the leak of personal data of 5.1 million Salvadorans, the hacker group CiberInteligenciaSV has released part of the source code and VPN credentials of the ATM network of the State’s Chivo wallet.
On April 23rd, the hacker group known as CiberInteligenciaSV, the same one that on April 6th had freely released the database containing the personal information of 5.1 million Salvadorans, published part of the source code and VPN credentials of the Chivo wallet ATM network.
The evening before the publication, on their Telegram channel, the hacker group announced:
“We will release part of the source code and VPN access belonging to Chivo Wallet, for free as always, unless any government snoops want to talk, I’ll leave our username here.”
Along with the publication of the file Codigo.rar, the group stated:
“Here is a compilation of code and VPN credentials of the Chivo Wallet ATM network, if anyone wants all the files, they can send me a private message, enjoy.”
The news was also reported by Venarix, a cyber analysis platform that monitors cybersecurity incidents worldwide.
Despite the lack of official confirmation, these additional clues significantly raise suspicions that the stolen data of over 5.1 million Salvadorans originates from registrations with the Chivo wallet, the state wallet introduced with the Bitcoin Law on September 7, 2021.
It is noteworthy the silence of the authorities, especially those linked to the Bitcoin world, who for years have remained silent about the limitations and risks of Chivo. No official statement has been issued, neither regarding the dissemination of personal data of almost the entire adult population of El Salvador, nor regarding the alleged connections with Chivo wallet.
