The mining company Hut 8 and Bitmain are collaborating to develop an advanced ASIC miner with liquid chip cooling technology.

On September 19, the mining company Hut 8 announced a new collaboration with the hardware manufacturer for mining, Bitmain, for the introduction of the ASIC miner model U3S21EXPH. This device will feature liquid chip cooling technology, designed to optimize the efficiency and scalability of mining operations.

Irene Gao, Vice President of Mining at Bitmain, stated:

“Hut 8’s technical expertise, operating strength, and track record of innovation made this partnership a natural evolution of our relationship as we began the journey of developing next-generation ASIC technology.”

Features of the U3S21EXPH

The U3S21EXPH miner will be capable of reaching 860 TH/s with an efficiency of 13 J/TH. It will be the first ASIC miner marketed by Bitmain that integrates a liquid chip cooling system.

The direct liquid cooling technology for the chip represents an innovation aimed at improving thermal performance and the operational lifespan of the device, ensuring a more stable and efficient mining operation.

Impact on Hut 8

Hut 8 plans to adopt the new model by the second quarter of 2025, following a strategy that aims to reach approximately 15 EH/s. This would increase the hash rate managed by the company from 18.5 EH/s to 33.5 EH/s, an 80% growth.

Asher Genoot, CEO of Hut 8, stated:

“Our partnership with BITMAIN has allowed us to advance our thinking on ASIC compute and create a more scalable model for data center design as we expand our footprint.”
