Lomond School becomes the first educational institution in the UK to accept bitcoin as a payment method.
Lomond School in Scotland has announced it will begin accepting bitcoin for tuition payments starting in the autumn term of 2025. This move makes the school the first in the UK to officially embrace cryptocurrency.
The decision to integrate Bitcoin into the school’s payment system comes in response to growing demand from parents and international education agents. Beginning in autumn 2025, families will be able to pay school fees using the leading cryptocurrency.
In its official announcement, the school stated:
“Bitcoin is available to anyone willing to learn—making it more democratic and inclusive, particularly for people in developing nations who lack access to traditional banking.”
To manage the payments, Lomond School has partnered with Musqet and CoinCorner. While all transactions will initially be converted into British pounds to mitigate exchange rate risks, the school aims to build a bitcoin reserve in the future if adoption increases.
The school also plans to incorporate Austrian Economics and sound money principles into its new curriculum.
