Amazon and MGM Studios team up to produce “Razzlekhan,” a film about the story of the 2016 Bitfinex hack.
Amazon and MGM Studios will collaborate on the production of a film titled ‘Razzlekhan.’ The film is based on the true story of Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan, the masterminds behind the hack attack on the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex in 2016. The release date of the film has not been announced yet.
The cinematic production will narrate the story of the theft, orchestrated by Lichtenstein and Morgan, amounting to over 3 billion dollars. The title ‘Razzlekhan‘ is derived from the stage name Morgan used as a rapper.
The couple was arrested in February 2022 by the U.S. Department of Justice. The Department of Justice seized over 95,000 of the stolen bitcoin, valued at almost 3.6 billion dollars. Subsequently, the agency recovered an additional 475 million dollars in stolen cryptocurrencies.
Possible legal consequences for the couple
According to law enforcement, Ilya Lichtenstein has been identified as the main perpetrator of the hack. It is alleged that he utilized advanced hacking tools and techniques to gain unauthorized access to the Bitfinex exchange. He has been accused of conducting over 2000 fraudulent transactions, transferring 119,754 bitcoin to his wallet. To cover his tracks, it is presumed that Lichtenstein manipulated Bitfinex’s control systems, deleting log files and other evidence.
Lichtenstein faces a maximum sentence of twenty years for conspiracy to commit money laundering. Morgan could face up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
