The team of the well-known Lightning wallet has decided to remove the application from the Google and Apple stores in the USA.
Since November 24th, the Lightning Wallet of Satoshi application is no longer available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for US users. The news was reported by some users who, when searching for the app, were redirected to other Lightning wallets. The episode has raised many questions, as the application was about to reach almost 1 million transactions in the month of November alone.
Wallet of Satoshi’s communication
In response to the growing confusion, Wallet of Satoshi released a statement through its X profile. The company clarified that the app has not been removed from the app stores; rather, the decision to remove it was made internally:
No detailed explanations have been provided regarding the reason for withdrawing the service in the United States by the team.
According to some users, including Pledditor, the decision was made following the news of the fine imposed on Binance by the United States Department of Justice. In the press conference, the regulator declared in an almost intimidating tone: “If you serve US customers, you must comply with US rules.”
The future of the app
In the statement, the company asserts that future developments could lead to the resumption of the service. Current US users retain full control of their funds and have the option to transfer their bitcoins to other wallets.
Currently, the Wallet of Satoshi application remains available on the app stores in Australia and Singapore.
