The ESMA register adds six German cooperative banks

ESMA has updated its MiCA register, bringing the number of authorised crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) to 331. The update added six German cooperative banks, taking Germany to 79 CASPs.

The six new entities are Raiffeisenbank Aidlingen, Ihre Volksbank, VR-Bank Mittelfranken Mitte, Volksbank Euskirchen, VR Bank Ried-Überwald and Volksbank Backnang.

With 79 CASPs, Germany is ahead of France, with 35, and the Netherlands, with 29. Germany’s total stood at 57 at the end of June.

BaFin had stated that the high number of authorisations partly reflects the size of Germany’s financial sector and the number of credit institutions eligible to offer crypto-asset services. The authority also cited the previous national authorisation regime, which gave some CASPs access to simplified procedures during the transition to MiCA.

ESMA’s datasets on asset-referenced tokens, e-money tokens and non-compliant entities remained unchanged: the ART register is empty, the EMT register contains 43 entries, and the list of non-compliant entities has 167 entries.
