The court in Montenegro has confirmed the previous decision of the Supreme Court and has initiated the extradition process for Do Kwon: end of the legal dispute?

On March 20th, the court in Montenegro rejected the final appeal by the legal team of Do Kwon, founder of Terraform Labs, and ordered his extradition to his home country. The court upheld the previous decision of the Supreme Court of Podgorica issued on March 3rd.

According to the appellate court, the tribunal had correctly established that the request from South Korea had arrived before the request from the United States. For this reason, the court authorized the extradition process to South Korea.

In February, the court had approved Kwon’s extradition to the United States, but his legal team managed to keep Kwon in the country and filed an appeal.

Although the extradition issue appears to be concluded, the fight may not be over as the United States Department of Justice will continue to seek Kwon’s extradition to the United States.

In South Korea, Kwon is accused of several financial crimes, including “securities market fraud, issuance of unapproved financial investment contracts, and embezzlement.” According to previous statements by Dan Sunghan, head of the Financial Crimes Investigation Office at the Southern District Prosecutor’s Office in Seoul, “securities market fraud,” in particular, could carry a maximum prison sentence of 40 years.
