The investigation reports audio recordings and mapping of the home network
Gamers Nexus, together with Level1Techs and three independent security researchers, says it found LG TVs scanning home Wi-Fi networks through UPnP, identifying connected phones, computers and smart devices.
According to the investigation, the group obtained audio from a TV microphone while the screen was dark and repeated the test after disconnecting the set from the internet. In another test, a TV allegedly uploaded stored audio after reconnecting to the network.
Gamers Nexus reports that disabling the main microphone in the settings may not have blocked a second microphone. Voice commands were allegedly converted into text and stored in the device logs; the microphone reportedly remained active for 10-15 seconds after speech ended.
Security researchers also identified remote code execution vulnerabilities that, according to the source, LG has not fully fixed. LG asked that technical details not be disclosed while the disclosure process is ongoing.
The source reports that in May, the Texas attorney general reached an agreement with LG on informed consent for collecting ACR data and an opt-out option. Gamers Nexus found the Do Not Sell My Personal Information switch disabled by default before connecting to the internet.
