Chainalysis sues US government over $95 million ICE contract awarded to TRM Labs

Chainalysis Government Solutions has challenged before the US Court of Federal Claims the sole-source award to TRM Labs of an ICE contract worth approximately $94.6 million for forensic software and investigative support services.

Chainalysis Government Solutions filed a complaint on 27 July 2026 with the US Court of Federal Claims against the decision by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to award TRM Labs a sole-source contract worth approximately $94.6 million for forensic software and investigative support services for Homeland Security Task Force operations. The related court filing became publicly accessible through CourtListener’s RECAP archive on Sunday 17 August.

The federal award notice states that the contract runs for one year, from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Chainalysis argued that ICE’s decision was “arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable,” noting that the company had submitted a capabilities statement in response to the agency’s notice of intent to obtain the services from TRM Labs.

The complaint remains under seal because it contains confidential information and Chainalysis trade secrets; the court authorised the seal on 31 July. The public documents do not detail Chainalysis’s specific objections or the remedy sought. TRM Labs filed an intervention motion on 28 July. The court has set government and TRM Labs responses for Friday, with an oral hearing on 2 September; the government has requested a decision by 10 September.

Both companies provide blockchain analytics tools that federal agencies use to trace cryptocurrency transactions and support financial crime investigations.
